The Source Family



Amazing documentary about an extraordinary man
I'd never heard of The Source Family until about a year ago when I saw Djin Aquarian play at a show in LA. After the show, a friend of mine filled me in on The Source Family and Father Yod. I didn't know too much more until I watched this documentary today. It's an incredible snapshot in time (1970s Los Angeles) and an extraordinary look into the history of Father Yod and the Source Family. An extremely well composed documentary explaining the evolution of this family using original archival footage, interspersed with interviews of the original members commenting on their time with the family. You're taken on an amazing journey, from the well-meaning spiritual beginnings of Father Yod and the Source Family, to the overblown ego-driven antics of it's leader. It's amazing to hear the stories of the followers of Father Yod and the impact, both constructive and destructive, he had on these people's lives. An Excellent Overview of the 1960's -- 1970's Search for Something Greater
Jim Baker had a big personality and this movie does it justice. The interviews of former Source Family members are priceless. They provide an inside view of what it was like to grow up and live in a cult. I highly recommend this documentary to anyone with interest in communal living experiments and / or the study of alternative religions.

Perfect illustration of why it is dangerous to allow anyone to lead you by your spirituality! Movie is powerful and AWESOME!
