Mission to Lars [Blu-ray]

A real heartwarmer
London journalist Kate Spicer takes her brother Tom, who has the Fragile X variety of autism, off to meet his hero, Lars Ulrich, drummer with the band Metallica. A challenge/jeopardy style documentary - "will my brother really get to meet his hero? Will the hero let him down?". Several things are never said in this film which maybe ought to be - Spicer is a London journalist with a lot of connections, so meeting Lars isn't an entire impossibility. The other unmentioned is the fact that no self-respecting metal band whose glory days are perhaps behind them would pass up the opportunity to get some positive publicity. However these objections evaporate as the documentary progresses and as a more powerful story starts to exert itself - of a career-driven sister re-connecting with brother she has kind of lost touch with. Very lovely.
